Medellín will be the second Latin American city to host the event, after it was held in 2002 in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
On July 2nd, as part of the 11th World Conference of Scientific Journalists, in Lausanne, Switzerland, before the Board of Directors and members of the World Federation of Scientific Journalists, the cities of Medellín and Montreal presented their nominations to be the venue for the event in 2021. The nomination of Medellín was led by the president of the Colombian Association of Scientific Journalists, Ximena Serrano, with the support of the Municipal Administration by the Greater Medellín Convention & Visitors Bureau.
On Thursday, July 4, during the closing ceremony, the final decision of the board of directors, which chose Medellín as host of the thirteenth edition of the conference in 2021, was unveiled.
This conference is now part of a list of confirmed international events for the city in the coming years, among which are the College Music Society International Conference and the International Meeting of the International Christian Chamber of Commerce in 2020.
